…a candle of devotion to Jesus Christ
reflecting His light in the darkness
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
Jesus is the light, but He also calls us to be the light (Matthew 5:14). We can only follow His command to be the light if we are walking in His light, continually acknowledging our sins (Ephesians 5:13).

Walking in His light is a very public act: Jesus challenged us not to hide our light but to be like a shining city on a hill (Matthew 5:15). Through His light, we are commanded to expose the unfruitful deeds of darkness (Ephesians 5:11). Those who are afraid to live in His sin-exposing light acknowledge by their own actions that their conscience testifies that their deeds are evil (John 3:19-21).

If you are afraid to participate in this vigil as a public demonstration of walking in the light (especially if you are too embarrassed by your sins), your heart is crying out for you to repent. As you repent, being forgiven by the grace of Christ, He will prepare you for good works like the LifeVigil.
